The Great American Solar Eclipse!
On August 21, a solar eclipse occurred in my country,
the United States. A solar eclipse is when the moon travels in front of Earth,
blocking the Sun and casts a darkness over the land for a couple of minutes. If
you live in a state that gets full totality then you will probably know what is
happening when suddenly the day turns to night! I’m sure it is quite exciting.
Although Mineola Texas, (where I live)
did not get full
totality this year, which
means that we could not see the moon
block the whole
sun, it was still really
cool.
Me and my family charted the eclipse and as we had solar
eclipse glasses, we could look straight up at the sun. We invited some friends over, and turned on the
TV where we could watch live, solar eclipses from other states that have
full totality. It got a little darker and cooler in Mineola, but still it was not as great
as full totality is. As we charted the moon and sun, we saw all of its stages. With the glasses on you could also see the clouds around the sun moving at a quick rate. It was a memory that I will never forget!
On April 8th, 2024, another full solar eclipse will come through the US. If you live in Dallas Texas, you will get full totality. I live in Mineola Texas, so I will get almost 100% full totality!
Many people get a lunar and a solar eclipse confused, but
here is a video that will explain to you what a solar eclipse is.
