About My Christmas Season
This Christmas month my family and I have been reading an Advent book by Ann Voskamp which shows us the true meaning of Christmas through stories from the Bible. The book is called Unwrapping the Greatest Gift. The greatest gift is Jesus, and the book shows us that instead of unwrapping gifts from under the tree, we can unwrap God’s love and let him be our greatest gift.
During Advent we always do fun and exciting crafts as a
family. This year we built Ginger Bread houses, cut out paper snowflakes,
celebrated Saint Nicholas, learned about the legend of the Candy Cane, had a Christmas
sing along, worked on Christmas puzzles, and watched Christmas movies by the
fire.
When I was younger, we also did Advent but I did not understand
it as well and focused more on the presents. Now I think of it as a celebration
of Jesus’ birth and His love for me. God is the reason of this month, and we
should spend it in His remembrance. This month to me is not just getting gifts
on Christmas day, but giving to others and showing them the love God gave and
still has for us. Getting together as family and friends is important to me,
and learning about Jesus never gets boring. I think it is amazing how Jesus
came to earth, and how he died on the cross to pay for our sins.
Me and my sisters have learned Christmas songs this season on
our guitars and piano, and we had the opportunity to play at several nursing
homes. To bring joy and smiles to people is the most important thing to me and
I want to spend this season loving others.
Our family has been doing acts of kindness this month. We
have printed of pieces of paper for each day that give us an act of kindness to
do. One day while we were at Walmart, my mom bought a gift card for the person
behind us to help pay for their groceries. This has happened to us before and
we know how exciting it feels to get part of our meal or groceries for free!
We have given thank you notes to some of our teachers, family members, and friends throughout the month, and have tried to spread God’s love that He
has for them.
To have a joyful Christmas we must show our love and joy to
others and bring peace to their hearts. I hope that you have a wonderful and
merry Christmas the season and that you can share Gods love to others.
